Picking the Best Label for Your Warehouse Setup

Barcoding systems have been around for years, helping companies around the world improve their workflows and increase efficiency. Yet not all barcode systems are the same, least of all the barcode labels you’ll use in your warehouse.

But selecting the right labeling system for your warehouse doesn’t have to be a sticky situation. Here’s some key questions to consider.

What Type of Label do I Need?

Get started by identifying what items you need to label, and where those items are located. For assets and inventory stored at eye level, you should use a smaller barcode with polyester labels. For those stored on the third or fourth level rack, you will need a large barcode and retro-reflective label to read the barcode.

Keep room temperature in mind, too. If you store inventory in a freezer, you will require a special, all-temperature adhesive label.

What Scanning Range Will I Need?

If you only have one- or two-level racks, you could stick to a standard range barcode scanner that has a range of 15 feet. For higher rack levels or hanging signs, you will need to use a long range scanner to read your warehouse labels. These scanners can read barcodes that are up to 50 feet away.
