The Defense Information System Agency (DISA) has approved the AirDefense Services Platform by Motorola Solutions, Inc. (MSI) which will protect the U.S. Department of Defense wireless networks from attacks, intruders and hostile devices.

DISA added Motorola’s AirDefense Services Platform v9.0 to the Unified Capabilities-Approved Products List (UC-APL), which certifies equipment to be compliant with the Defense Department’s security and interoperability standards. AirDefense offers a wireless intrusion detection solution (WIDS) that recognizes and blocks unauthorized users and devices from connecting to a wireless network, without regard to it’s manufacturer.

Enterprise capabilities that are included on the UC-APL have been approved to be acquired by Department of Defense agencies, which are required to lau nch security systems that will protect wireless networks at their facilities. AirDefense is the first and only approved product in the WIDS category on the UC-APL to date.

There is a major user base of AirDefense systems protecting wireless networks for the military already in place. With the placement of AirDefense on the UC-APL, customers of the Defense Department can now be assured their networks comply with DISA requirements.

In addition to the UC-APL requirements, AirDefense v9.0 meets FIPS 140-2 U.S. government security certification standards and is in the process of becoming Common Criteria certified.
