If you use direct thermal labels this story will interest you.

Major Dye Supplier Temporarily Shut Down

The major supplier of leuco dyes (30-40% globally) has temporarily shut down for violating pollution standards in China. Leuco dye is the substance added to direct thermal paper that allows it to change color when heat is added. This shortage is creating high demand and high prices. Many suppliers are reaching out to clients to let them know about the issue, so we wanted to do the same. Please be aware that prices for both direct and thermal transfer labels are projected to go up by 3-8% in the weeks to come. We recommend stocking up on labels now to avoid further spikes impacted by this temporary shut down.
